Impact Stories: Mobility Cart Donations

BruderHilfe has donated over 400 multi-purpose mobility carts across Katsina, Sokoto, Kwara, and Lagos States, focusing on hard-to-reach rural communities where residents live below the poverty line and have limited access to basic amenities.

Major Donation Highlights

  • Katsina State: In January and July 2021, 250 mobility carts were distributed across 34 local government areas. Another 100 carts were donated in October 2022 through the Aminu Masari Youth Empowerment Foundation.
  • Sokoto State: 90 carts were donated in December 2021 to mark World Disability Day.
  • Kwara State: Beneficiaries received mobility carts during a humanitarian outreach in April 2021.
  • Lagos State: Donations were made in Isolo Local Council Development Area in March 2022.

During the Katsina donations, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari CFR FNIM, Executive Governor of Katsina State, commended BruderHilfe for supporting women and children living with disabilities, many of whom had never benefited from such initiatives before. The Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters also expressed appreciation for the contribution.

Personal Impact Stories

  • Jummai Barak, a hairdresser and baker, received a mobility cart in July 2021 in Lagos. She expressed her gratitude, noting that the cart enabled her to run her business efficiently and move around independently, after unsuccessful applications to other NGOs.
  • Mr. Tunde Ewaremem, living with mobility impairment in Lagos, also benefited, gaining improved independence and access to resources that were previously unattainable.

Impact on Beneficiaries

The mobility carts have transformed lives by:

  • Enabling persons with disabilities to move around independently and carry business tools, supporting livelihoods.
  • Allowing beneficiaries to navigate their homes, neighborhoods, schools, and social spaces without relying on others.
  • Helping recipients carry heavy loads for shopping, market activities, or household chores that were previously impossible.
  • Boosting confidence, mental health, and quality of life, as beneficiaries experience independence and the ability to live normal, productive lives.

BruderHilfe continues to work with marginalized communities, ensuring that mobility-impaired individuals can participate fully in society and achieve self-sufficiency.
