Epe School Outreach – November 2021
On 11th November 2021, BruderHilfe Social Development Initiative visited Community Primary School, Erepoto, in Epe Local Government Area, Lagos State, to implement an education development project. This aligns with the organization’s core objective of improving literacy levels among women, boys, and girls in rural communities, while providing both material and non-material support to enhance safety and participation in educational and social spaces.
Donations and Support
BruderHilfe provided a variety of educational materials to establish a school library, aiming to boost the academic and social development of the pupils. Items donated included:
- Children’s storybooks
- Colouring books and crayons
- Pens and reporting folders for teachers
- Hair bands for girls
- Biscuits
Observations and Challenges
During the visit, the team observed that many pupils had a poor grasp of English, often reading below their expected class levels. This was largely due to:
- Limited access to books and learning materials at home
- Parents with low income who struggle to provide educational resources
- Schools with inadequate infrastructure and educational facilities
These challenges contribute to unfavorable learning environments, affecting both academic performance and social development.
Next Steps
This outreach marks the beginning of BruderHilfe’s education development initiative at Community Primary School, Erepoto. Plans include:
- Establishing a book club for pupils
- Providing scholarships for exceptional students
- Continued provision of learning resources to improve literacy and academic outcomes
Through this pilot project, BruderHilfe aims to create a sustainable foundation for education and empowerment in the Epe community.
