Development Projects in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State – April 2023

Between April 19th and 22nd, 2023, BruderHilfe implemented a series of development projects across Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, aimed at enhancing access to socio-economic services, improving livelihoods, and supporting marginalized and vulnerable groups.

Women Empowerment: Project Karakata

The initiative began with a training and orientation session under the Project Karakata Women Empowerment program. Women from various communities were equipped with knowledge to establish Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) and manage revolving loan schemes.

The first batch of beneficiaries in Ondo State—ten women—received ₦50,000 each to establish businesses. This support provided both income-generation opportunities and the skills necessary to strengthen their communities economically.

Engagement with Traditional Leadership

The BruderHilfe team, led by Mrs. Mary Oluwabamigbe Bruder, Executive Director, paid a courtesy visit to His Imperial Majesty Oba Oluwasegun Williams Akinyomi (Alagwe VII), Amapetu of Mahin Land. Mrs. Bruder briefed the Monarch on the planned projects, and he assured his full support, recognizing the organization’s contributions to the community.

Support for Persons with Disabilities

BruderHilfe donated mobility and assistive devices, including walkers, crutches, walking sticks, multi-purpose mobility carts, and eyeglasses, to persons with disabilities. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, highlighting how these tools improve independence, productivity, and quality of life.

Ugbonla Community Interventions

Residents of Ugbonla benefited from a range of programs:

  • Health services: Vital checks conducted by medical personnel, alongside donations of medical supplies and consumables to the local health center.
  • Basic living necessities: Clothing, footwear, beddings, and children’s toys were provided.
  • Maternal and child support: A community baby shower was organized, with maternal and newborn kits donated to pregnant women and nursing mothers.

“One Family at a Time” Initiative

BruderHilfe visited Omowunmi Enikannaye, a 69-year-old grandmother caring for four grandchildren in a dilapidated home in Ago Debo. Plans are underway to complete her new house and establish a business to provide sustainable income. Additional household items were also donated.

Mahin Community Projects

In Mahin, BruderHilfe focused on both education and elderly care:

  • Elderly support: Walking sticks and nutritional supplements were provided, alongside health checks and counseling by medical professionals.
  • Education support: 200 reading books and two laptops were donated to community primary and secondary schools to establish school libraries. Additional educational materials, school bags, and toys were distributed.
  • Maternal support and general donations: Maternal and newborn kits, clothing, footwear, and basic necessities were provided to women, men, and youth.
  • Health infrastructure support: Medical equipment, supplies, and hospital consumables—including crutches, walkers, adult diapers, wheelchairs, bed linen, hand sanitizers, and robes—were donated to the primary health center.

Igbokoda General Hospital Follow-Up

Donations to General Hospital, Igbokoda included ICU infant care equipment, baby bassinets, and mobility aids, following up on support provided in 2021.

BruderHilfe extends gratitude to its partners, Muriel Gordon Foundation, New York and Clean Angel GmbH, Berlin, for supporting the successful implementation of these initiatives.
