BruderHilfe Outreaches in Ondo State – November 2021
In November 2021, BruderHilfe carried out a series of education, health, and humanitarian outreaches in rural communities of Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State. These initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission to increase access to social and economic services for the less privileged and socially excluded members of society.
Ebe-Alala Community
The first community visited was Ebe-Alala, a coastal settlement where all houses and institutions are built on stilts over water, accessible only by boat.
- Education Support: At Ebe-Alala Academy, the only secondary school serving the area, 50 books were donated to start a library. The team, led by Mrs. Mary Bruder, also spoke to students about the importance of reading, concentration, and pursuing their ambitions. Additionally, 50 children’s storybooks were donated to the local primary school to establish a library.
- Health Support: The Ebe-Alala Health Centre received essential medical supplies, including wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, adult diapers, bed liners, baby bath basins, infant formulas, gowns for medical professionals, gloves, and hand sanitizers. These donations addressed the community’s lack of access to standard healthcare.
- Humanitarian Aid: At the Community Town Hall, basic necessities including clothing, footwear, food provisions, and health supplements were distributed to residents.
Ago-Debo Community
In Ago-Debo, the team visited the only primary school in the area, a community-constructed bamboo and wood building. The school had no proper infrastructure, with one hall serving all classes.
- Education Support: Books and educational toys were donated to establish a school library. Four pupils under the BruderHilfe scholarship scheme received additional writing materials. Mrs. Bruder assured the school that it would be adopted for ongoing support, including refurbishment and educational materials.
- Humanitarian Aid: Basic living items were distributed to indigent families to improve their daily lives.
Ebute-Ipare Community
In Ebute-Ipare, the team implemented a similar outreach:
- Health Support: The Primary Health Centre received gowns for medical staff, adult diapers, crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, bed liners, gloves, baby bath basins, infant formulas, and hand sanitizers.
- Education Support: Catherine’s RCM Primary School received 50 books to establish a library, aimed at improving reading, comprehension, and literacy levels among pupils.
- Humanitarian Aid: Children, youth, adults, and the elderly received clothing, footwear, food, educational toys, mattresses, bedding, and sanitary provisions.
Igbokoda Basic Health Centre
BruderHilfe also donated medical supplies and hospital consumables to the Basic Health Centre in Igbokoda, including bed liners, baby bath basins, gloves, adult diapers, hand sanitizers, infant formulas, wheelchairs, crutches, and mobility walkers. Mrs. Bruder assured the centre of continued support.
Ongoing Commitment
Through these outreaches, BruderHilfe aims to continually support rural communities by providing medical supplies, educational resources, and basic necessities, with support from international partners and sponsors. Special thanks were extended to the Muriel Gordon Foundation, Long Island, New York, for donations, and to the Nigerian Navy for providing security.
