BruderHilfe Empowers Hard-to-Reach Communities in Kano State
BruderHilfe continues to prioritize development for Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations, including persons living in hard-to-reach and underserved communities. On November 27, 2023, the organization partnered with the Foundation for Social Orientation and Gender Development to implement a Rural Development Project in Kano State.
The program took place at the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute and included multi-sector support aimed at improving livelihoods, health, and educational opportunities. Key interventions included:
- Donation of 50 multi-purpose mobility carts and other mobility aids to persons with disabilities
- Provision of books and educational materials to public schools
- Distribution of basic living necessities to residents of rural communities
- Delivery of maternal and newborn kits to pregnant women and nursing mothers
- Donation of medical supplies and mobility aids to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano, including wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, bed liners, adult diapers, and other hospital consumables
Prior to the event, the BruderHilfe team, led by Executive Director Mary Oluwabamigbe Bruder, visited the offices of the partner organization. They met with the Chairperson, Mariya Inuwa Durumin-Iya, and the Board of the Foundation for Social Orientation and Gender Development, discussing focus areas and identifying communities in most need of intervention.
The project was a success, with beneficiaries expressing appreciation for the donations and guidance on how to use mobility aids and other resources to improve daily life. Stakeholders present commended BruderHilfe for its commitment to reaching underserved communities and setting a precedent for future development projects in Kano and across Northern Nigeria.
By combining education, healthcare, and economic support, BruderHilfe continues to empower vulnerable populations to live independent, dignified, and productive lives.
